This was easily worked around by configuring the preferences to ignore these interrupts, but it’s also a behavior I’ve never seen before. Hard drives spin continuously when they're powered, and eventually those spindle motors and the read/write heads wear out. I see a lot of older Macs - five years, maybe older - come in with problems with their hard drives. Or perhaps just the MagSafe board needs to get pulled. The main logic board might have to be replaced, which is big money. For some Macs it might mean replacing the entire "top case," which integrates the keyboard, trackpad and battery. If you've spilled a soda on the keyboard of your Mac laptop, for example, it can vary depending on the model and the severity of the damage. There's also the question of what needs to get fixed.
